Experience has proven that it is foolish to think world peace begins with the Government and/or politics. Peace does not exist on paper and it cannot be negotiated and signed.
According to Yoga philosophy it is said that peace is planted in the the heart and is transmitted to others. To have world peace, there must be a critical mass of people who have achieved inner peace. External peace can exist only if all members of society have inner peace.
To achieve world peace, nations must be in peace; and for this to take place, cities must be in peace. For cities to be in peace, families must be in harmony. And for this, individuals in the families must be in peace (Confucius).
Everything we see outside is a reflection of what we have inside ourselves. So what we need is inner peace within every human and (maybe) animal on this planet :). Cleaning the mirror when the face is dirty isn't going to change the world.
Gandhi taught that we must be the change we want to see in the world. So, as individuals we can achieve the state of inner peace and then transmit it to our closest ones, and expand peace to all humankind.
When we have light within ourselves, we radiate that light to others. And when we transmit internal peace to others, we feel unity with the whole universe.
I believe Yoga is a path to world peace and that is why I hope to spread the teachings of the Masters of our tradition, Swami Sivananada, Swami Satchidananda, Swami Vishnu Devananda, Swami Swaroopananda (who had actually given me my spiritual name Rukmini :0)), Swami Brahmananda (who will be in NY this summer at Sivananda ashram, upstate NY), and many other Masters of this lineage and other traditions.
Om Shanti, Om Peace.
